Andy and Orathai Bulfer - Award Winning Salsa Traci Riggsbee Carr is originally from Carrboro, N.C. and moved to the Crystal Coast in 1982. In her love for beachcombing over at "Shack" and "The Cape," she came across a huge 12' board that was naturally shaped like an alligator, after arguing with her husband and threatening to swim it accross from the Cape, they brought it home and she painted it up, embellished it with shells and glass bead eyes and hung it over the garage door. People would drive by the house really slow and just gaze at it. With the encouragement of friends and family, she decided to start making these critters to sell. Traci loves to recycle, so now she is using recycled fence pickets and has added morray eels, iguanas, and fish to the critter list. Her pieces made their debute at The Friendly Market in 2008 and that is her "home base" but they can also be found at several galleries in the surrounding area like "Over The Moon" on Ocracoke Island, Dragonflies in Wilmington, Sea Gypsy Designs in Emerald Isle and Island Furniture in Atlantic Beach. The critters are cut, sanded, stained, painted and are then embellished with inlaided shells and sliced shells as fins and glass beads for their eyes. No two critters are alike. She has also added to her collection a Toucan made from 2 crushed cans and forks for its legs and a spoon as its beak all from recycled stuff. She constantly looks at "trash" with the wonder of what critter can be made. More and more people are appreciating art made with recycled stuff. Keep checking by The Friendly Market to see what critter shows up next. Carolina Basketry Quality hand made baskets. Kits are available if you would like to try basketry. Classy Glass by Cheri Famous for her windchimes, Cheri has been a resident of Eastern Carolina for two decades and has been creating Stained Glass since 1994. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-U0_lnC-Hmw Mandy Copp Glass Sun Catchers and Wine Stoppers Katy Dunn is the creator of Sea Bling Jewelry in eastern North Carolina. Having grown up in Carteret County, she spent a great deal of her youth combing the beaches for anything she could find. Hunting for shark's teeth, shells, sea glass and driftwood just seemed natural to her. Several years ago she began designing and making sterling silver jewelry with sea glass found on the beach. It quickly became much more than a hobby! The idea of merging her passions and creating beautiful, custom jewelry from natural materials just felt right! Five years later, she is still combing the beaches and creating pieces that truly are one of a kind. Sea glass is found on shorelines worldwide and is any glass element that has been thrown or landed in the sea and then naturally tumbled by the action of the waves and currents in the sandy ocean floor. It's always fun to try to guess the origin of the glass and how it ended up there - a shipwreck, perhaps? Only authentic sea glass is used in Sea Bling jewelry, most of which is collected on the North Carolina shores of the Atlantic Ocean. She also has pieces that were given to her by family and friends from the distant shores of Mexico and Puerto Rico to the shores of Virginia and Florida. In addition to using sea glass, you will also find many types of shells, sea pottery, driftwood, pearls, mother of pearl and anything unique and interesting that might be found on the beach. Custom work is her specialty so please don't hesitate to contact her for that special piece you may have in mind. If you have a piece of sea glass or any other treasure, she will be happy to design something specifically for that. Vera & Dave Fellows, Garden Posts & Flower Pots Decorative hand painted posts and pots provide a unique, one of a kind accent for the garden, yard or patio. Vera and Dave Fellows, creators of Garden Posts & Flower Pots, have been avid gardeners for many years. Vera has been a whimsical decorative painter for a long time as well. The original garden post was created approximately 10 years ago from the gift of a pair of "pot holders". Dave does all the prep work and Vera does the decorative painting. The posts are treated lumber, painted with exterior grade paint and sealed. The terra cotta pots are sealed, painted and sealed again. The pot holders can hold up to a 10 inch pot or 90 pounds.
