JOEL BECTON

Photography

I have always been interested in photography, having received my first camera when I was in the sixth grade.  While working with Carolina Telephone/Sprint I entered their annual photo contest for several years and won a variety of honors from first place to honorable mention in different categories.  Also many of my entries were included in the company
calendar.

After retiring and moving to Merrimon, I had plenty of time to switch over to digital photography and learned to print my own photographs.  It is very satisfying and exciting to see my work almost immediately.

After much coaxing from my wife, I entered the North Carolina Seafood Festival Photo Contest.  In the past few years I have won two First Place and one Second Place awards.  It is quite an experience to have your photograph displayed on the poster associated with the
Seafood Festival.

Since joining the Arts Council of Carteret County, I have enjoyed participating in the "Adopt An Artist" program.

My work is displayed in the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum Gift Shop.  I also enjoy showing my work on a regular basis at The Friendly Market in Morehead City and other
local festivals.

I was born and lived in Kinston, North Carolina until I retired and moved to Carteret County in 1999.  I enjoy time with a camera, on the computer, and reading and learning about new things in digital photography.  My subject matter covers plants to places.  We live in a beautiful area of Carteret County with much waterfowl and watermen so my camera stays in use much of the time.  I thank God for these blessings and many more.
